FROM THE MATCH SECRETARY

Update on our Friendly Matches

17th August Turnberry v. Blairgowrie Ladies

The Blairgowrie Team of Sandy Bushby, Liz Fertacz, Janice Lang (Captain on the day), Barbara Cuthbert, Avril Smith, Mary Hope and Sheila Ritchie. Brenda Clough is still, unfortunately on the Practice area when the photo was taken.
The team travelled down the night before, arranging and paying for their own accommodation as the first tee time was 11.06am on the newly upgraded Alisa course.  Janice reports that a team from Nairn was also invited, making a total of 24 players participating.   The format was 8 teams of 3, made up of 1 player from each club, with 2 net scores counting on each hole.  An interesting format, that as Match Secretary I may consider for next year during some of our home fixtures. The winning team included Mary Hope.

It appears the weather was quite windy with a number of showers, but all the ladies enjoyed the course with some fantastic bunkers to play out of as well as taking in the wonderful views.  Following the match, all enjoyed a lovely meal in the clubhouse, with Janice giving the club's vote of thanks.  Well done ladies for prepresenting the club and making the journey and I take it Mr Trump was not in sight.
We look forward to welcoming the Turnberry ladies back to Blairgowrie next year.

Other August Matches

On the 4th Aug, the team of Liz Fertacz (Captain), Heather Dawson, Jo Stewart, Muriel McPerson, Jacqui Lansburgh, Hilary Inglis, Judith Clowe and Caroline Dracup ventured to Pitlochry.  The team enjoyed the day, but unfortunately did not come away with a win.  It was nice to see Caroline joining the list of names in the bronze section, especially with Pitlochry being her introductionary match this season.  All enjoyed a meal in the clubhouse after the match with Liz giving the vote of thanks. Thank you ladies for playing.

On Monday the14th Aug, the heavy rain was making the fixture initially doubtful, but fortunately it changed enough just before play began at 1.00pm, for Linda Rice (Captain) to lead out her team consisting of Janet Kennedy, Jennifier Sneddon, Miriam Rooney, Diane Wallace, Jennifier Livingstone, Judith Clowe and Julie Wink.  Having battled the elements, both teams enjoyed a welcoming meal after the match, with Linda fulfilling the captain's duties, by giving a vote of thanks. Downfield emerged winners 3.5 to .5.  Thanks ladies for playing in varying weather conditions.
Our next match is the 21st August at Panmure with Mary Hope leading the team.  Play well ladies and enjoy.
A quick reminder to those ladies who had their names down for the posponed match away to Strathmore on 5th June.  It is now re-arranged for 22nd September.  I will be emailing all who had their names down, but if you already know you cannot play, please let me know.
We are drawing close to the end of our friendly season, so if you have any suggestions for matches or any comments please let me know.  Your views are important, in order to improve any fixtures.  Many thanks to all.

Fiona Johnston (Match Secretary)
