FROM THE MATCH SECRETARY

Monday the 25th of April saw our Blairgowrie Ladies playing in the friendly match at Elie and in the evening playing hosts to Auchterader in the Handicap league.  The order of the day, weatherwise was some sun, lots of wind, various degrees of cold with the addition of snow at both venues.  The order of the day golfwise was draws all round.

Elie v. Blairgowrie

Captain for the day, Muriel McPherson lead a well wrapped up team, who despite the weather, shared the spoils on the day, 2-2. The greens were very tricky with the ball blowing and rolling on most of them, making putting great fun at times.  A lovely two course meal followed, with Muriel giving a warm vote of thanks to our hosts.  Thank you to the team of Muriel McPherson, Muriel Rae, Fiona Johnston,, Sheila Ritchie, Linda Rice, Judith Clowe, Christine Ogilvie, and Ann Spence

Blairgowrie  v. Auchterader

Handicap Captain for the night Mary Hope reported that the course proved difficult for both teams with the snow and wind making all the greens hard to read, with some holes playing even longer than usual.  The result of 2.5 to 2.5 was a fair result on a very cold night.  Thank you to the team of Mary Hope, Liz Fertacz, Bronwen Godley, Brenda Clough and Carol Turner.

FROM THE MATCH SECRETARY

Forfar v. Blairgowrie Ladies

Today, 18th April, we played our first friendly match of the year, away to Forfar. Despite the windy conditions and some of the ladies playing the course for the first time, all the players enjoyed the outing. The matches were close, with two going to the last putt on the 18th green. After the match, the team enjoyed a meal in the clubhouse with the result being announced that we lost 3 and half to a half. I would like to thank our team of Margaret Hunter (Captain), Avril Smith, Moria Begbie, Linda Rice, Christine Cleeton, Judith Clowe, Ruth Watson, and Kathy Cameron.

U
 The New Handicap League

The Blairgowrie Team of Liz Fertacz, Brenda Clough, Bronwen Goodley, Jacqui Landsburgh and Fiona Johnston had the pleasure of hosting Blairgowrie's first match in the Handicap League on Monday 11th April.  It was a very enjoyable evening with the Crieff ladies, who all liked the course, some never having played it before, and the comforting food provided in the bar following the match.

This early arranged match tested all against the elements of the wind, the cold, but most of all the gradual loss of light.  A big thank you to all for volunteering.  Blairgowrie emerged with a 3-2 win.

THE COLUMBINE CUP 12/04/2016

Ian McPherson with Lady Captain, Kathy Cameron

The Senior Gents wrestled back the Columbine Cup from the Ladies today  by a margin of 8 - 4.  In a closely fought contest, several of the games went to a dramatic last putt on the 18th green.
Kathy Cameron, Lady Captain, made a gracious speech and presented the winning Captain Ian McPherson with the coveted Columbine Cup.
To end the day Morna Steven, who had a Hole-in-one last Friday, was presented with the Patience Cup by Rae Brass.  This Cup was given by Rae seven years ago  in honour of her mother, Patience Halhead.   Morna will retain the cup until the next lady has a Hole-in-one.
Thanks to everyone for all their work making this such an enjoyable day, especially Ian McPherson, Kathy Cameron and Match Secretary, Fiona Johnston. All the Matches were played in a wonderful, sporting spirit, followed by a very convivial meal.  Well done gentlemen...but watch out next year!

Blairgowrie Ladies v. Pitlochry

A very hearty thanks goes to Jacqui Landsburgh, Brenda Clough, Liz Fertacz (Captain), Bronwen Godley and Mary Miller, for a well fought match against Pitlochry today on Rosemount, in the Mail on Sunday, 3rd round tie.

The match was played in great sunshine with Liz leading an upbeat and spirited team. The match proved to be a close contest, with Blairgowrie only losing out on the 18th hole in the last game, resulting in a 3-2 win for Pitlochry.

Following the event, the ladies enjoyed lunch in the clubhouse and a well earned soft drink.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the ladies who have played in this competition and hope next year will see even more ladies volunteering to play.

Fiona Johnston (Match Secretary).
